Brew Guide

1. Place your portafilter on a scale and tare the weight.

2. Grind 18-21 grams of coffee beans into the portafilter basket. For optimal taste, the grind is as fine as possible. This may take a bit of refinement for the perfect flavor.

3. Distribute the coffee grinds evenly in the basket. Use your finger to swipe across the basket to level the grounds. Rotate the basket 90 degrees, swipe again. Repeat this 3-4 times.

4. Tamp the grounds. Spin to level out the top.

5.  Place the portafilter into the grouphead and start your shot.

6. Let drip for approximately 30 seconds. Stop the shot before the espresso begins to blonde.

7. Serve & enjoy!

How to Brew the best cup you have every time you have it

Like all good things, full flavor takes time — and your own special touch. The CHEMEX® Coffeemaker delivers only the elements essential to rich coffee flavor, so that your personal taste and approach shine through.

Step 1

Step 1: Get into the grind

Grind your favorite whole bean coffee to a medium coarse ground.

Optional Tip: We suggest using a burr grinder because it delivers a more consistent particle size, allowing for a more even extraction and fuller bodied cup of coffee.

Step 2

Step 2: Filter up

Open a CHEMEX Bonded™ Filter into a cone shape so that one side of the cone has three layers, and place it into the top of the CHEMEX® brewer. The thick three-layer portion should cover the pouring spout.

Optional Tip: Dampen the filter with warm water to rinse and preheat the brewer. Once the water has drained through the filter completely, pour it out of the brewer while keeping the filter sealed against the coffeemaker wall.

Step 3: The scoop

Put one rounded tablespoon of ground coffee for every 5 oz. cup into the filter cone. Feel free to use more if you prefer it stronger; our CHEMEX® brewing process eliminates bitterness.

Tip: On all brewers except the pint size model, the “button” indicates the carafe is half filled and the bottom of the wooden collar/spout indicates it's full. On the pint size brewer, the button is the full marker.

Step 4

Step 4: Let it bloom

Once you have brought the appropriate amount of water to a boil, remove it from the heat and allow it to stop boiling vigorously. Pour a small amount of water in a circular motion over the coffee grounds to wet them, and wait for about 30 seconds for them to “bloom”.

Optional Tip: The “bloom” is escaping gas that has been trapped in the beans during the roasting process. You will see the grounds inflate and bubbles appear on their surface as the flavor inhibiting gas expels upward. Once this is complete, water can freely extract the aromatics and coffee oils while brewing.

Step 5: First pour

After the grounds bloom, slowly pour the water over the grounds while keeping the water level well below the top of the CHEMEX® Coffeemaker (quarter inch or more).


Step 6: Brew on

Slowly pour the remaining water over the grounds, using a circular or back-and-forth motion as you pour to ensure an even saturation of the coffee.

Step 7: Toss the filter

Once the desired amount of coffee is brewed, lift the filter with spent grounds out of the brewer and discard.


Step 8: Enjoy the perfect cup

Pour your freshly made coffee into your CHEMEX® mug and indulge in the flavor.

Step 9

Stay warm

In order to keep your coffee warm you may place the CHEMEX® Coffeemaker directly on either a glass stove top or gas flame both at low heat. Be sure that there is a small amount of liquid in the carafe before placing it on a warm heating element.

Orders can only be canceled before they have been dispatched. If your order has already been shipped, please refer to our return policy for further instructions.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds or exchanges after a purchase has been made. This policy is due to the perishable nature of our products.

However, we are committed to ensuring customer satisfaction. If you receive a damaged or incorrect item, please contact us immediately. We will review the situation and strive to resolve the issue, which may include a replacement, discount, or store credit.

Lost packages

At Roasted, we strive to ensure every order reaches you in perfect condition. In the event that your order is lost during transit, please reach out to our customer support team at [email protected] with your order number and any relevant details.


Damaged packages

We understand the disappointment of receiving a damaged package. In such instances, please report to our customer support team within 72 hours of receiving the order and include photos of the damaged items or package.

We will review the provided documentation and, if necessary, arrange for a replacement or issue a refund.

Returns must be initiated within 30 days of receiving your order. Items must be unused and in the original packaging.


Return by mail

Reach out to our customer support team at [email protected] to initiate the return process with your order number and details about the item you wish to return. Print the shipping label and drop off your return at a UPS location.


Return in store

You can visit any of our retail stores and present your order confirmation or packing slip as proof of purchase. All items must have the original tags attached.


Refund process

Upon receiving the returned item, we will inspect it to ensure it meets our return policy criteria. If the return is approved, a refund will be processed to the original payment method.


Non-Returnable items

Certain items may not be eligible for return due to hygiene, final sale, or other reasons. These items will be clearly marked on the product page.

Shipping

Our standard shipping time within the contiguous US is 3-5 business days.

Shipping charges, if applicable, will be calculated and displayed at checkout. Please note that delivery times may vary depending on your location and the time of year.


Currently, we do not offer international shipping, but we are working to provide this service in the future.

During the holidays, *everyone* online shops. This means mail carriers like DHL and USPS get backed up and packages can, unfortunately, get delayed. For our Overnight and 2-day delivery options, we require a signature for the items to be delivered fully. Please note that FedEx will make 3 delivery attempts before they send the package back to us.
